Jena Malone - The Painted Lady (Kurzfilm 2012)
The Painted Lady is a short film written and directed by Liz Goldwyn starring Jena Malone. The film is a poetic internal monologue of a young girl as she recalls a passing encounter in the street with a “painted lady” (a colloquialism for a 19th Century prostitute). She romanticizes an overt sexuality so foreign to her—while imagining her own transformation from adolescence into womanhood.The Painted Lady was shot on 8 mm and features a hand painted title sequence shot in HD.
The Painted Lady premiered in an art installation in Los Angeles in November 2012. The installation recreated a 1890s brothel in a private home, in which each room was turned into a set and featured female performers as “ladies of the house”. Painted Lady was projected in the “Madam’s bedroom” set.
